Being local to the area, and having a number of rugby fans working on the project, this striking grandstand canopy was a high profile and exciting project for Architen Landrell!
The stadium, known as The Rec occupies a prime location in the city of Bath. Situated on the banks of the River Avon on one side of the Recreation Ground it lies in an open space in the heart of this rugby loving City.
It’s prime location meant it was natural that designers of the stands wanted to make a feature of it and the fabric canopy has done just that!
Fabricated using PVC coated polyester, the canopy is formed from a series of conic shapes fixed together to create a continuous cover. The design incorporated stainless steel cyphonic drainage at the front of the canopy with foam upstands at the edge of the fabric, to channel rain water off the roof and away from those sat below. 40mm diameter pipes were used to ensure that this complex drainage system was as unintrusive as possible.
The canopy provides an impressive feature to the stand which can be seen by shoppers, tourists and rugby fans alike!
